I am all about sneaking more vegetables into meals at my house. Here's the thing - if my kid can't see the veggies, he'll eat them. But the second he gets a whiff of a carrot or cucumber on his plate, he'll enter REBEL MODE and refuse to eat. So, I'm not above buying the kid products that squeeze veggies into servings like fruit snacks, pouches, or mac n' cheese (it's real.)

But, serving cauliflower at Chick-Fil-A?

I never thought I'd see the day.

But that day could arrive in Cheyenne soon. According to a release by Chick-Fil-A, three test markets started serving up the Cauliflower Sandwich on Monday, February 13. The closest market is in Denver, Colorado.

I've never heard of deep frying cauliflower and serving it on a bun, but that's precisely what Chick-Fil-A has set out to do. "Cauliflower is the hero of our new sandwich, and it was inspired by our original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich," said  Leslie Neslage, director of menu and packaging at Chick-fil-A.

The release explained that the sandwich recipe is similar to the classic Chicken Sandwich - it's breaded, deep-fried, and served with pickles. So, no, it's not a "healthy" alternative. That said, it is Vegetarian-friendly (not Vegan, though. It uses milk and eggs in the recipe.)

Why Cauliflower?

So why did Chick-Fil-A settle on cauliflower for their new veggie sandwich? Apparently, guests told Chick-Fil-A they wanted more veggies in their diets. The choice of cauliflower came about during the development process. "Time and time again, we kept returning to cauliflower as the base of our sandwich," said Stuart Tracy, culinary developer of the Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich. Get the full release details by clicking here.

Will the Cauliflower Chicken Sandwich Succeed?

Honestly, I'm not sure. We all know heading to Chick-Fil-A is an indulgence, not a stop at a health foods store. But it does expand the menu to suit a new demographic for Chick-Fil-A and would let vegetarians enjoy the deep-fried goodness of the restaurant.

Will Cheyenne see the Cauliflower Chicken Sandwich on the menu soon? We'll see.
