Cheyenne Airport Gets More Funds

The Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Commission approved last week that the Cheyenne Regional Airport may receive $580,000.  This is to help get a contract with a commercial airline service, as reported by the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

This money will be added to the already $2.3 million the airport has received from city of Cheyenne, Laramie County funds, Cheyenne-Laramie County Economic Development Joint Powers Board, Aeronautics Commission, federal funding and Cheyenne Regional Air Focus Team funds.  The plan is to have a contract with an airline company, a $18 million project completed, in that project a new terminal this fall.

The funds from the ASEP will not be given until there is an airline contract finalized and signed.The Wyoming Department of Transportation is in talks with Las Vegas and Phoenix for a leisure route or to Dallas Fort-Worth as a business connector.

The ASEP funding will be received in 2018-2019, but the future for state funding is up in the air.  Tim Barth, Cheyenne Regional Airport Director, says he and his staff will ask the state to maintain the ASEP funding around $1.5 million to $2 million.  This is in hopes that they don't eliminate the program.
