Wyoming Gets Treat From United States Air Force Band
Coming to Torrington, Wyoming is the United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants from Washington D.C.
The USAF is making their way to Eastern Wyoming College to kick off their 9-day community relations tour in Wyoming, Nebraska, and Iowa. The best part about these concerts is that they are all free to the public. This tour is more than just the music, it is also about helping kids. When the band isn't performing, they will be going into the communities mentoring students with their AIM (Advancing Innovation through Music) program. They basically go into a school, head on over to the music class or school band and teach the children proper technique, musical phrasing, and correct posture.
One of the members of the band is from the Cowboy State, Chief Master Sgt. Stacy Newbrough Ascione, principal flutist and Chief of the USAF Concert Band, and she couldn't be happier to be coming home to perform.
Chief Master Sgt. Stacy Newbrough Ascione told KGWN, “It has been over a decade since this ensemble has performed in the state of Iowa, and this will be my first time performing in my home town of Iowa City as a uniformed member,” says Ascione. “It’s especially poignant to be performing at Hancher Auditorium. I performed there quite a bit as a kid, and it has always been a personal goal of mine to return one day. I’m very thankful to have grown up in the state of Iowa and I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for its exceptional music programs and inspirational teachers. I am honored to be representing not only the United States Air Force but also the state of Iowa!”
The concert will take place in Torrington, Wyoming at Eastern Wyoming College in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. This Saturday, March 9th.
