The scammers are at it again and have threatened people to cough up some cash or they will shut off their utilities. Here's what you need to know.

Recently, a customer of a power company in another state was called and told if he didn't come up with $1250, then they were going to shut off the power to his home.

Of course, this was a phony power company and shows that the hackers were at it again. They instructed him that he would need to put the cash on a MoneyPak pre-paid card and not a credit card.

Once the customer paid the scammers they said they needed more money or else they would cut off his power. That's when he realized he'd been taken, but it was too late by then.

Just remember that Black Hills Energy, Cheyenne's power company, will never call and ask you for bank information. Nor will they come to your home and demand payment on an energy bill.

Should this happen to you, don't pay it. Also, be careful as the scammers are coming up with an email that can look exactly like the legitimate energy company.

When it doubt, call Black Hills Energy and you may need to alert law enforcement as well. Don't be the next victim of these dastardly crooks.
