The Burns Broncs are playing for more than just pride this season. When the football team takes the field this fall, they'll be honoring their assistant coach Colby Ward, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Ward was on a fly fishing trip in June when he had a seizure and was rushed to a hospital in Colorado where doctors found a golf-ball-sized tumor in his brain. While Ward recovers from surgery and undergoes chemotherapy, the team stepped up to organize a fundraiser for their coach.

Burns Head Coach Brad Morrison donated all of the proceeds from the team's summer camp to Ward and his family. The team will also be selling bracelets and raffle tickets at home games to help raise money for Ward's medical expenses.

"Coach Ward is one of my greatest influences of almost my entire life," senior Boe Clayton told Wyoming News Now. "I'll be out there for him and I'll be out there trying to show what he taught me."

Ward graduated from Burns High School in 2013 and was a star football and basketball player. He hopes to be on the sideline when the Broncs kick off the regular season on Friday, September 6th versus Wright.
