Wyoming's Last Drive-In Movie Theater Is Still Going Strong

Today is National Drive-In Movie Theater Day. Sadly, there's only one drive-in theater left in the state of Wyoming. The American Dream Drive-In in Powell is still going strong after nearly 50 years in business.

During the 50s and 60s, there were dozens of drive-in theaters across the Cowboy State. Cheyenne had the Motor Vu Drive-In, which opened in 1969 and became the Starlight Drive-In in 1985.

Casper's Mile Hi Drive-In was the largest in the state, with a capacity of 600 cars. It was also known for some time as the Terrace Drive-In. In Laramie, the Skyline Drive-In was the place to be on summer nights. There was also a Skyline Drive-In in Sheridan. Douglas, Riverton, Torrington, and Wheatland had drive-in theaters too.

Luckily, there's still one place in Wyoming that's keeping the "American dream" alive.
