Wyoming DOT Expands Wi-Fi Access to Rest Areas Along I-25

Three rest areas on Interstate 25 between Casper and Cheyenne are the newest locations to offer Wi-Fi, thanks to new partnerships between WYDOT and telecommunications companies.

The rest areas at Chugwater, Dwyer Junction and Orin Junction are the latest stops to offer Wi-Fi at no cost to the public, according to a WYDOT news release.

Soon, Wi-Fi will also be available at Independence Rock -- southwest of Casper on WYO 220 -- as well as both the westbound and eastbound Bitter Creek rest areas, some 41 miles east of Rock Springs on I-80. Those upgrades should be finished in the next 12-18 months, according to Mark Gillett, assistant chief engineer for operations at WYDOT.

"We are always watching for opportunities to partner with companies that may allow us to get Wi-Fi at a new location," said Keri Bohlmann, WYDOT utilities and design software support supervisor. "WYDOT would like to get Wi-Fi at all of our rest areas."

Also offering free Wi-Fi to travelers are the Southeast Welcome Center on I-25, the Northeast Welcome Center on I-90 and the Sheridan Information Center, also on I-90. The Wyoming Office of Tourism provides Wi-Fi in those areas.
