Most Wyoming residents go seven hours north to the Snake River in Jackson Hole for a whitewater rafting experience. For Cheyenne residents, you only have to drive four and a half hours to the Wind River Canyon in Thermopolis, Wy.

The Wind River Canyon is a hidden gem in Wyoming for whitewater rafting.  They offer 4 different tours:

  • Upper Wind River Canyon, which goes for about two hours and costs $59 per person.  During this ride, you will experience amazing scenery, go through the longest part of the river and yes, of course, you will get wet.
  • Lower Wind River Canyon, it is a two-hour trip as well.  This one is picked the most from guests and was deemed the most fun.  You might come across some Bighorn sheep while on the trail.  The cost is still $59 per person.
  • Entire Wind River, this is not for the weak of heart.  If you choose this five-hourS trip, not only do you raft all day but lunch is provided with options like New York steak sandwiches, smoked ribs and yes even options for vegetarians.  This will cost $109 per person.
  • Scenic Wind River Canyon Float Trip, you will float along the Wind River and see the amazing scenery from Big Horn Basin, plus you will not get wet.  $39 per person for this ride.

If you have never been on the Wind River, not only is it closer to us than Jackson Hole, it's less crowded and the rapids are a little more dangerous, which makes for a fun time.  Take a virtual tour...
