UPDATE 2:00 PM 2/21/2019

A statement from Walmart Media Relations says that the 'Baby Saving Day' event at select Walmart stores is real and is happening on Saturday, February 23. A new link to the Walmart website with information about the event was provided as well: https://www.walmart.com/ideas/353440

Here is the text of the statement:

On Saturday, Feb. 23, from 10:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. local time, select Walmart stores across the country will be inviting new and expecting parents to the largest in-store baby event of the year. It’s a hands-on opportunity to demo baby gear, talk to specialists, learn about Online Grocery Pickup and take home samples and coupons for their growing families. There will also be rollbacks on select baby items in-stores.

Beyond the in-store event, there are additional savings online from Feb. 2 – 28. You can shop the online savings herebut please note items in-store and online may differ.

ORIGINAL STORY

You may have seen something about a 'Baby Saving Day' at Walmarts going on Saturday, February 23. Stories about the event have been lighting up Facebook groups this week. But, here's the thing, it doesn't seem to be real.

Stories like this one, fox13news.com/consumer/walmart-hosting-baby-savings-day-with-in-store-discounts-specialists-on-feb-23, claim that on Saturday, February 23 Walmarts across the country will be "... hosting “Baby Savings Day” with in-store discounts on all sorts of gear for new babies, such as car seats, diaper bags, and crib mattresses. Specialists will be on deck to provide soon-to-be parents demonstrations of baby gear and advice on choosing the right products, along with samples and coupons."

But, according to Walmart's website, there is no mention of such an event. Only a month-long "Baby Savings Days" sale, where select baby products are on sale.

Fellow Townsquare Media Radio station WLZW in New York state contacted Walmart corporate and spoke to a company representative who confirmed that there is not a 'Baby Day' event Saturday.

Walmart Corporate Representative - Samantha told us that there is indeed a sale (over the next 6 weeks) but this particular 'Baby Savings Day Event' that is supposed to feature demonstrations, 'severe/extreme sales' and giveaways along with the listed PDF of participating locations they know nothing about it.  In fact the PDF of participating locations is not a Walmart site or creation. -WLZW

WLZW also spoke with a representative of Advantage Solutions, a Third-Party Marketing Company, they're the folks you see giving out samples at stores. They don't work for Walmart directly. Advantage Solutions Event Specialists will be in some Walmart stores on Saturday, February 23rd to provide a very limited number of samples, as they usually do, and highlighting some toys. The Advantage Solutions rep added that the list of stores going around is not from them.

It looks like this may be another case of social media running a bit amock. The 'Baby Day' event at Walmarts does not seem to be a real thing.
