Union Pacific’s Locomotive No. 1943, The Spirit of the Union Pacific is coming to Cheyenne Nov.13 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

The “Spirit of the Union Pacific” locomotive name is linked to the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress that was funded by war bond contributions from UP employees in 1943.

“The plane was christened The Spirit of the Union Pacific and assigned to the 571st Bomber Squadron. The Spirit of the Union Pacific was shot down on its fifth mission during a raid on enemy installations in Munster, Germany.”

“Union Pacific’s Locomotive No. 1943, The Spirit honors the United States’ armed forces and the men and women filling their ranks. Every detail in The Spirit’s trade dress incorporates a piece of each U.S. armed forces branch.”

The Salute to the Military Tour will be in Cheyenne on Nov. 13, 2017 at the Cheyenne Depot Museum, 121 W. 15th St.

The free event is open to the public 10:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. On Display: 11:00 a.m. – Noon. There is no fee.
