There are many ill-advised things to do if your only concern is for yourself, but they will still get you (rightfully) enshrined as a hero.

Add to the list: jumping into a burning gasoline tanker truck and driving it away from fuel pumps and pedestrians. Bonus points if you survive the encounter, as this Turk did.

After realizing the truck was on fire, Engin Kocak tried to put it out with a hose, according to a story in the Thaindian (Thailand) News. That didn't work, so the father of two, 36, hoped in the driver's seat and drove the burning truck away from a more serious explosion if it had gone up at the pump.

Kocak drove about half a mile in the burning tanker before abandoning it and escaping to safety himself. Six were injured and 60 firefighters were required to extinguish the truck.
