About six weeks ago, we conducted a poll on the Laramie County Sheriff's race.

That poll ended in a near tie when we closed the voting (people continued to vote after we announced the end of the poll, but we did not count those votes in the final tally).

On Thursday, a kgab.com reader asked us to do a second sheriff's poll with the Aug. 16 primary election less than two weeks away. Three candidates, Boyd Wrede, Brian Kozak, and Don Hollingshead, are vying for the Republican nomination.

Jeff Barnes, who has qualified for the November election ballot as an independent, won't face a primary challenge. The same is true for Democrat Jess Fresquez, who doesn't have an opponent on primary election day for his party's nomination.

As we gave it some thought, we decided that the idea has some merit. The candidates have all been out on the campaign trail. talking to voters, giving interviews, and attending candidate forums. It will be interesting to see if anyone has moved the needle through the course of the campaign.

A lot of people don't even really pay attention until the time to actually vote gets nearer. In Cheyenne, Cheyenne Frontier Days is always a big focus of attention and energy for a lot of folks. With CFD in the books for another year, those folks can now turn their full attention to local politics.

So have you made up your mind yet? Who will get your vote? We'll announce the results of our poll next week!
