See Flooding Videos From Tuesday’s Cahill Park Water Main Break

A break in a water main in the Cahill Park area of Cheyenne led to flooding which some residents say has caused extensive damage to their homes.

One area resident told Townsquare Media that the damage to her family's home has been estimated at $80,000, and she says their insurance won't cover the cost of the damage.

She said a neighbor has told her that the damage to the neighbor's house has been estimated at $25,000 to $30,000.

The break also led to widespread reports of discolored water in the city.

Erin Lamb of the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities told Townsquare Media that the Cahill Park Break was reported at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Crews were already busy trying to fix another water main break in a  different area, and got to the area of East Cahill Park around 2 a.m.

She said they were able to shut off the water by 5 a.m., and water service to the area was restored within the next couple of hours after that.

The Cahill Park was only one of many that BOPU crews have had to deal with over the last several days.

A call to Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins requesting comment on Wednesday morning was not immediately returned.
