Albany County Sheriff, Laramie Police To Help Out During Cheyenne Frontier Days

Cheyenne Frontier Days 2026 kicks off on July 17, and local law enforcement agencies will be out in force.

Cheyenne Police Have Been Planning For Months

Cheyenne Police Department spokeswoman Alex Farkas gave us a statement that reads in part

"Yes - the Cheyenne Police Department spends months prior to the event planning with partnering local, state, and federal agencies. Incident Action Plans (IAPs) are created for each day and night – the plans clearly outline the tactics, resources, and support needed from each agency.

Officer staffing is dictated by CFD's predicted attendance; ticket sales are used as an indicator of what we can expect. We assign additional personnel for events/shows with higher attendance that may require an increased police presence.

Officers assigned to CFD focus only on criminal calls within Frontier Park - the rest of the force focuses on city-wide calls. Our overall plan covers the park and the City of Cheyenne. For noncriminal activity and security screening, CFD has hired a private security group.''

Laramie County Sheriff: Other Agencies Collaborating

Meanwhile, Laramie County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Brandon Warner says law enforcement from Albany County, Laramie, Pine Bluffs and the Wyoming Highway Patrol will be lending a hand in regard to impaired driving.

"The annual 10-day celebration, scheduled from July 17 through July 26, 2026, historically draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Cheyenne area. While Cheyenne’s year-round population is approximately 70,000, the community’s population is expected to more than double during the festivities. While this influx of visitors provides a substantial boost to the local economy, it also significantly increases traffic volume on regional roads and highways.

To ensure the safety of both residents and visitors, LCSO is collaborating with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, the Laramie Police Department, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, and the Pine Bluffs Police Department. Throughout the event, participating agencies will deploy increased patrols and high-visibility enforcement to proactively detect and apprehend impaired drivers.'
