Report of Student With Gun Prompts Lockdown at Cheyenne East
Cheyenne East High School was placed on lockdown and Carey Junior High School on secure protocol Thursday afternoon after it was reported that a student had a gun, officials say.
Verbal Disturbance Leads to Lockdown, Secure Protocol
According to police spokeswoman Alex Farkas, officers were dispatched to a verbal disturbance near East at 11:48 a.m.
Farkas says during the call, a school resource officer received a report that a student was carrying a gun.
"At approximately 1:25 p.m. at the recommendation of law enforcement, East High enacted a lockdown," Laramie County School District 1 said in a statement.
Officials say officers were able to locate the student and determined that there was no evidence of a gun in his possession.
LCSD1 says out of an abundance of caution, officers requested Carey be placed in a secure protocol.
East’s lockdown and Carey’s secure protocol were lifted at 2:09 p.m.
Farkas says officers don't believe there to be a threat to the public.
