The Cheyenne Police Department recently released a report showing overall crime dropping over the first half of 2026 when compared to the same time last year.

According to a CPD news release, overall crime was down 12 percent for the period between Jan. 1, 2026 and June 30, 2026 in a year-over-year comparison to the same time last year.

According to the report:

''This marks the third consecutive year of reductions in crime. In 2025, the CPD reported a 15% decrease in overall crime during the same timeframe.

“Public safety is a team effort, and we cannot achieve these results without the hard work of partnering agencies, community stakeholders, elected officials, and our residents,” said Chief Mark Francisco. “While we are encouraged by these trends, we know the year is not over. We will continue working hard and remain focused on finishing the year strong.

Report Says Crimes Against People, Property And Society All Down

The report uses the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) "Group A Offenses” which do not differentiate between felonies and misdemeanors. The offenses are categorized by Crimes Against Property, Crimes Against Persons, and Crimes Against Society.

According to the report:
  • Crimes Against People decreased 17.2%
  • Crimes Against Property decreased 15.2%
  • Crimes Against Society increased 3.0%
  • Overall crime is down 12.4% in Cheyenne
