The aquaculture program at the Wyoming Women's Center in Lusk will close by the end of the year, the Wyoming Department of Corrections in a news release Friday said.

Since opening in 2007, the program has raised many species of fish.

"Most recently the program grew tilapia and catfish for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department," the news release reads.

Consistent Vacancies Have Made Staffing, Marketing Difficult

The WDOC says consistent vacancies in the program over the past several years have made staffing the program as well as marketing the product difficult.

The WDOC says it will expand other vocational and employment opportunities to ensure inmates who may be impacted by the program's closure can prepare for their release.
