Join Wyoming’s Veterans For A Meaningful Silkies Hike
Wyoming has a large number of veterans who call the Cowboy State home, and with that, many organizations focus on them. Those organizations focus on different ways to help vets, and each has its own special twist in how it works.
One of those organizations is Irreverent Warriors. Their specialty is offering veterans a chance to get together and spend a Saturday on a Silkies Hike, which, for those who don't know, the term "Silkies" refers to the short physical training shorts worn in the military.
Irreverent Warriors has been around since 2015 and hosts Silkies Hikes all over the country, including here in Wyoming, as a way for veterans to connect with other veterans for support, camaraderie, and connection when they're in need.
We bring veterans together using humor and camaraderie to improve mental health and prevent veteran suicide.
According to a VA Suicide Data Report in 2012, at least 22 veterans lose their lives to suicide every day. This number has become very well known, but the actual number is likely higher. Irreverent Warriors aims to help veterans by offering an out-of-the-box, life-saving support network.
The Wyoming Chapter of Irreverent Warriors invites veterans, active-duty, reservists, and National Guard members to the 2026 Silkies Hike in Casper on May 23. Registration for the hike can be completed at the Irreverent Warriors website, which you can access by clicking this link: www.irreverentwarriors.org
The hikes are planned so that no matter your physical level, you can participate. They are broken down into multiple segments and are an all-day event. It's not a race; it's an opportunity for all past and present military service members to get together and have fun.
Even though the hike is for those with military service, that doesn't mean you can't be involved. You can become a sponsor, make a donation, or, when you see the hike, show your support by honking, waving, shouting, and showing love to these Irreverent Warriors. You can also buy raffle tickets to win a glass artwork of an Eagle holding an American Flag.
