Cowgirls Pepper Denver Goalkeeper in 1-0 Exhibition Victory
LARAMIE -- Wyoming averaged 19 shots per game last fall while posting a 7-6-6 overall record.
If Sunday's exhibition outing is any indication, that number -- and possibly victories -- are about to skyrocket.

The Cowgirls, who were selected to finish second behind only Air Force in the preseason Mountain West poll, peppered Denver goalkeeper Lucy Garnsey, putting an eye-popping 35 shots on goal in a 1-0 victory inside Madrid Sports Complex.
Alisa Bunn, thanks to a feed from Maddie Burr, buried the only marker of the afternoon in the 86th minute of regulation.
Defensively, Wyoming allowed just three shots to reach a pair of stoppers, Haley Bartel and Julia Herges. Only one of those attempts came over the final 45 minutes. That came on a penalty kick.
“It was a positive performance,” Wyoming head coach Josh Purdum said postgame. “We got to play everybody that was healthy and ready to go, and that was a huge positive. But even when we subbed, we showed our depth, and I’m excited for that. The performance, for 90 minutes, was very positive and puts us on the front foot going into the season.”
Wyoming opens the regular season on Thursday at home against the Drake Bulldogs. These two also met in the 2025 season opener, battling to a 1-1 tie in Des Moines. Things will get underway in Laramie and 4 p.m. You can catch all the action on Mountain West+.
