Scouring Some Changes on the Cowboys ’23 Roster
LARAMIE -- Names, faces and even jersey numbers change.
So do positions.
Wyoming released its first official football roster of the 2023 season Tuesday on the eve of fall camp. At first glance, nothing seems too overly drastic. Ethan Drewes, who made the move from defensive tackle to offensive guard this offseason, is no longer with the program.
A school official confirmed the Longmont, Colo., product will instead focus on law school in Laramie.
The NCAA Transfer Portal once again did its thing.
The number of players who left the program -- 17 -- looks a lot worse on the surface than it truly is. Starters Joshua Cobbs (WR - Houston), Emmanuel Pregnon (OG - USC) and Cam Stone (CB - Hawaii) all left via free agency. So did edge rusher Oluwaseyi Omotosho (Oregon State) and nickelback Keonte Glinton (New Mexico State).
UW's leading rusher Titus Swen briefly entered the portal after being dismissed from the team after the 2022 campaign. He decided to forgo his final collegiate season and is now a member of the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.
A great majority of the remaining 10 players never even stepped foot on the field in an FBS game.

Craig Bohl and Co. dipped into the portal early themselves, snagging Northern Illinois running back Harrison Waylee. The junior will miss the "first couple games" as he recovers from offseason knee surgery, but he did rush for nearly 2,000 yards during his three seasons in DeKalb.
The Cowboys also brought in cornerback Tyrecus Davis (Navarro CC), wide receivers Ayir Asante (Holy Cross) and Devin Boddie Jr. (Vanderbilt), along with safety Jevon Davis (Black Hills State), Ethan Day (Modesto CC), running back Jamari Ferrell (Saddleback CC), offensive lineman Dante Gravito (Fort Lewis), quarterback Carson May (Iowa/ Coffeyville) and cornerback Daylen Wilson (Cal Lutheran).
Here are some other random changes from the 2022 Wyoming football roster to now:
* Mitchell Anderson, a 5-foot-8, 182-pound sophomore, is now listed as a running back after spending the '22 campaign as a wide receiver.
* Who is Gage Brook? Apparently he is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound quarterback. It appears he was injured for much of his senior season at Rocky Mountain High School. Yes, he's from Fort Collins.
* Buck Coors was listed as a nickelback last fall. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound sophomore is now a free safety.
* By now you know that big Frank Crum is making the move from right tackle to left. He will replace Eric Abojei on Andrew Peasley's blindside during his final season in Laramie.
* You probably also recall Bohl moving former linebacker Sam Scott to running back before last December's Arizona Bowl. Nothing has changed. That was a permanent switch.
* Isaac Sell, also known as the offensive MVP of the annual spring game, is now listed as a cornerback. The Laramie product caught eight passes for 79 yards as a wide receiver last April.
* Brent VanderVeen, a redshirt freshman linebacker a season ago, is no longer listed on the roster. The Sedro-Woolley, Wash., product isn't on the 247sports.com transfer portal tracker, either. Same can be said for defensive end Brady Bohlinger, offensive lineman Carlos Harrison, kicker Luke Glassock, offensive lineman Kohl Herbolsheimer, defensive end Haegun Hoffschneider, running back Max Jones, offensive tackle Jack Lookabaugh, linebacker Tommy McEvoy, wide receiver Trey Nelson, cornerback Mathew Posas, guard Mason Schultz, wide receiver Evan Hiremath, fullback Dalton Strouss and long snapper Tommy Wroblewski.
* Offensive linemen Zach Watts and Marco Machado, along with tight end Jackson Marcotte, announced after the season they would be retiring from football. Tight end/ fullback Parker Christensen did the same. The Sheridan product is now in chiropractic school.
* How about some number changes? Running back Dawaiian McNeely has made the switch from 30 to No. 3. Defensive end Braden Siders will now wear No. 34. In 2022, he sported 86. Wide receiver Jaylen Sargent is now wearing No. 8 instead of 5, and linebacker Nic Talich will wear 49 instead of No. 41. Starting nickel corner Wrook Brown has given up the No. 23 and will now wear 2.
