Cowgirls Ready to Open Season at MSU Payne Stewart Memorial

LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team will get the 2023-24 campaign underway on Monday at the MSU Payne Stewart Memorial hosted by Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri.
The Cowgirls will open their season with the first two rounds of play on the 6,159-yard, par-72 course on Monday teeing off at 7:30 a.m. MT. The tournament is then set to conclude on Tuesday with the final round of play set to being at 7:30 a.m. MT.
The Cowgirls will be led into their season opening tournament by graduate student Jadan Gonzalez who made a splash in her first season in the brown and gold recording multiple top 25 finishes during the 2022-24 campaign.
Gonzalez capper off her impressive form a season ago with a stroke average of 75.6 which ranks fifth all-time in program history.
Junior Kyla Wilde will also be looking to start the season strong as she returns form injury. Last season, Wilde only competed in five tournaments but looked phenomenal in those five outings racking up three top 25 finishes highlighted by a 14th place finish at the CSU Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic.
Rounding out the season opening lineup for the Cowgirls will be Morgan Ryan and the duo of Tomine Bjerkelo and Samantha Speilman who will both be making their Cowgirl debuts.
The Cowgirls will be up against a field full of variety and strong competition in their season opener as they are set to square off with 16 other teams highlighted by the host team, Missouri State. Missouri State is coming off of a season which saw them win the Missouri Valley Conference Title and compete in the NCAA San Antonio regional.
Along with their conference championship, the Bears had a total of four top three team finishes a season ago.
Joining the Bears and the Cowgirls in field will be Creighton who is coming off of a third-place finish in the Big East a season ago as well California Baptist who closed out their 2022-23 campaign with a fourth-place finish at the WAC Championships.
Adding to variety of the field, NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma City is set to compete after finishing third at the NAIA Championships last season.
