Is Ft. Collins Becoming a Hub for Marijuana Users?

With frequent stories about the Wyoming Highway Patrol seizing marijuana crossing Wyoming, and an ongoing discussion of whether or not Colorado medical marijuana recommendations are valid in Wyoming (they're not), the Denver Post reports there is disagreement in Ft. Collins about whether or not that city is becoming a haven for pot smokers.

Monte Whaley (awesome name, by the way) writes that the mayor and several city council members are defending their decisions on medical marijuana dispensaries in FoCo. City ordinances require more stringent distance restrictions — from churches, schools and the like — than state law, but some in the community say the city government is violating its own law on the subject.

Not so says Mayor Doug Hutchinson. Instead, he says, the city has simply allowed businesses operating before the ordinance went into effect to remain, a legal process called grandfathering.

"I think Ft. Collins is taking this issue very seriously, and so far I think we are in reasonably good shape," he says.

So the question — purely hypothetical! — is whether you'd travel to Ft. Collins, or any other place in Colorado, for some medical smoke? Is marijuana becoming the new lottery ticket?
