Laramie County District Attorney Jeremiah Sandburg recently attributed the recent rise in crime to marijuana. To prove his case, he argued that the rate of violent crime increased in Laramie County after Colorado legalized weed in 2014.

From 2014 to 2015, the number of robberies also fell from 13 to 7. Using the District Attorney's logic, we should thank marijuana for the decrease, right? Perhaps we should also praise pot for the overall drop in violent crime from 2010 to 2015. Nah, we'll let the D.A. take credit for that.

Instead of resorting to reefer madness, here are five things that Sandburg could also blame for crime statistics.

1. Video Games - In 2015, there were 100 auto thefts in Cheyenne. That same year, Grand Theft Auto V was released. Coincidence?

2. Full Moons - In 2015, we had 8 cases of arson. That's one for nearly every full moon.

3. Movies and Music - The film "Straight Outta Compton" opened in theaters on August 14, 2015. Could it have been responsible for any of the 95 assaults reported that year?

4. Global Warming - According to the National Weather Service, the average high temperature from June to August in 2015 was 1.3 degrees higher than the previous year. There were also 43 more burglaries.

5. The Devil - Ask any of the violent offenders in Cheyenne why they committed their crimes and they'll tell you. The devil made them do it.
