In 2019 we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad. As part of the celebration, Wyoming’s legendary Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive made its way across Wyoming and down into Utah. We found this drone video from that trip, that was shared on YouTube, of the fourteen-wheeled, coal powred locomotive traversing a Wyoming pass.

The video was dropped on YouTube by Shawn Billings. He mentions this is captured near Hadsell cut in central Wyoming. Try as I might, I cannot figure out exactly where this pass is located in Wyoming. Based on what I’ve found, it appears he’s referring to the area near Rawlins in Carbon County.

Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in December 1941. The locomotive was retired in December 1961, having traveled 1,031,205 miles in its 20 years in service.  Union Pacific reacquired No. 4014 from the RailGiants Museum in Pomona, California, in 2013, and relocated it back to Cheyenne to begin a multi-year restoration process. It returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad's Completion. - Union Pacific

Thanks to Shawn for the share as it’s always a treat to see the awesome Big Boy riding the rails.
