Cheyenne Council Committee Supports Skypath Grant Request

The Cheyenne City Council Finance Committee has to recommend asking the state for $2 million to build a skypath in downtown Cheyenne.

If the grant is approved by the Wyoming Business Council and the State Loan and Investment Board, the city would have to come up with about $450,000 to cover the balance of the estimated cost of the project.

The skypath would link the Hynds Building, where a business says it is interested in locating, to the Jack R. Spiker parking garage. Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen said recently he is confident the city could come up with the $450,000 if the state money is approved.

The vote in the Finance Committee Monday was 2-1, with councilmembers Mike Luna and Jeff White voting yes and councilwoman Annette Williams voting no.

But the committee vote is only a recommendation, and the full city council will have the final word on the subject.

Monday's vote was also only a vote on the request for state funding, not on the project as a whole.
