Bryan Applebee has explored the wilderness of western Wyoming for 47 years. When the Interpretive Ranger at Grand Teton National Park asked his longtime girlfriend Susie Matthews to marry him, he knew exactly where to propose. Last week, Applebee popped the question during his weekly "ranger talk".

Applebee and Matthews met 35 years ago when they both worked for the Colorado Highway Patrol. After retiring from the CHP, Bryan returned to the Tetons, working as a Park Ranger during the summer months, and later rekindled his friendship with Susie.

Dozens of visitors from around the world gathered at the Colter Bay Amphitheater for the nightly campfire chat. The audience included several friends and family members who Applebee invited to witness the proposal.

Prior to the presentation, a television crew interviewed Susie for what she thought was a story about Park Rangers. Unbeknownst to Matthews, the cameras were really there for her. During the ceremony, Bryan invited a surprised Susie to join him on stage, then dropped to one knee and gave her an engagement ring. Susie said "yes" as the crowd cheered in approval.
