At high noon on Saturday, six mayors from neighboring towns in central Wyoming will settle their differences with an old fashioned wild west shootout.

The event is the brainchild of Shoshoni Mayor Joel Highsmith, who challenged the mayors from nearby towns Dubois, Hudson, Lander, Pavillion, and Riverton to compete in a three-gun shooting competition testing their marksmanship with pistols, rifles, and shotguns, according to County 10.

All five mayors accepted HIghsmith's challenge for the shootout at the Shoshoni Gun Range tomorrow. Mayor Highsmith has even commissioned a trophy, which will belong to the winner until next year's rematch.

The event won't be the first shoutout in Shoshoni. The town was founded in 1904 along the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad. It quickly became a boom town with a population over 2,000. Shoshoni was also a haven for outlaws and gamblers, who plied their trade in the town's 23 saloons. Today, the population of Shoshoni is 649.
