Wyoming Is Top Of The List For Child Car Deaths

This whole week is child safety week and children's safety in a car in Wyoming isn't good. Wyoming has 6.44 deaths per 100,000 children making Wyoming the worst state for children's death by a car accident, according to Gillette News Record.

The numbers are actually down for Wyoming, in 2014 it was 9.1 deaths per 100,000 children, according to SafeWise. In 2017, the numbers dropped all the way to 5.1, which brings us to today which is 6.44 deaths per 100,000 children.

One of the main problems with children deaths in cars is the car seat is improperly installed. Nationwide, about 60% of car seats are not installed properly. Another problem is, children are seating in the front seat either when they aren't old enough or big enough. It is recommended that children sit in the backseat of the vehicle until he/she is 13 years of age.

It is also recommended that children three years old or younger should be placed in a rear-facing car seat, children between the ages of four and seven should be placed in a front-facing car seat, and children that are between eight and 12 should sit in a booster seat.
