President-elect Donald Trump has called for term limits for congress.

Is this something the city of Cheyenne should consider?

Wyoming voters overwhelmingly approved a term limits initiative for state legislators and statewide elected officials in the 1990s, but those limits were later struck down by the Wyoming Supreme Court. The high court said such a law required a constitutional amendment rather than simply a ballot initiative because it would change a provision in the state constitution.

But a two-term limit on Wyoming's governor has not been challenged in court and remains in place.

But would you favor term limits on city officials, assuming such an idea could pass legal muster?

Supporters of term limits argue they keep officeholders from becoming entrenched in office and say an influx of new leadership brings in new ideas and fresh vision. Nine of the ten largest U.S. cities have term limits in place for their elected officials.

Opponents of term limits say they unfairly restrict the voters' right to vote for experienced candidates. They argue candidates terms in office are already limited by their ability to win re-election. They also argue experience in dealing with issues isn't a bad thing.

What do you think?
