Big Boy No. 4014 and Living Legend No. 844 will get back on the tracks to be on display in Ogden, Utah.

These two iconic locomotives are coming together to celebrate 150 years of the Transcontinental Railroad.  When the two finally come together in Utah they will re-enact the photo that was taken on May 10th, 1869 as the last spike was driven into Promontory Summit (which is no longer there due to needing scrap metal in WWII).

“Completing the transcontinental railroad was a major feat that united America and laid the foundation for the country’s growth, economic progress and improved the way of life,” said Scott Moore, senior vice president-Corporate Relations and chief administrative officer who told KNEB. “The restored steam engines are rolling pieces of history that take us back in time as we celebrate this momentous anniversary. We’re excited to share No. 844 and No. 4014 with our communities, and invite generations to join us along the tour.”

The Living Legend No. 844 will leave Cheyenne for its trip to Utah on April 27th.  It will arrive in Ogden, Utah on April 28th where it will be displayed at the Ogden Union Station until May 11th.

Big Boy No. 4014 has undergone restoration for the past two years.  It is one of eight locomotives of its kind still in existence and the only working locomotive.  It will leave the Cheyenne Depot on May 4th will a farewell ceremony and arrive in Ogden, Utah on May 9th.

Head on over to the Union Pacific website for the tour schedule of the locomotives as they will make whistle-stops along their journey.
