Cheyenne Frontier Days Dandies Seek Future Stars [VIDEO]

The Cheyenne Frontier Days “Dandies” are a locally legendary equestrian drill team of young women who serve as goodwill ambassadors for the “Daddy of ‘Em All.” The Dandies are looking out for new young ladies to join their team.

The Dandy tryout is open to all Laramie County females in grades 9 – 12. This consists of horsemanship skills and an interview. Each must provide and care for her own horse.

On Sept. 10, applicants must arrive at Double AA Barn at Frontier Park at 8 a.m. That's at the west gate on Hynds Boulevard, to register, get directions and the Dandy packet. That comes with an application, release form and pattern.

For those trying out for the first time, there is a “clinic” every year to learn expectations and rules on horses. That, however, was already held in late August. If first timers want to know if they can still try out, a call to Director Michelle Hess can answer that. And that call needs to be made now:  307 630-6367.

It takes a person’s time to be a Dandy, attending the Coronation Ball, the Western Art Show and Sale, the Pancake Breakfasts, and the USAF Thunderbirds Air Show. Dandies are also in each of the four downtown parades, nine rodeo performances and eight night shows. The job starts well before July, however, including events leading up to Cheyenne Frontier Days, including things like Dandy fundraisers.
