I can almost guarantee that you've never seen Casper quite like this before. I have found a vintage silent movie that shows what our area was like in the late 1930's and early 1940's.

Dull Kit shared this video of Casper to YouTube and this is how he described it:

Shot on color and black and white 8mm movie film between 1938 and 1941 by my father. Mostly in and around Casper , Wyoming. There are shots of kids riding their bikes on the ice while others ice skate. You can see the town high school Natrona County High School. Also various scenic panoramas of mountains, hills and valleys. There are historic cabins, rustic shacks and his neighborhood in snow.

Here are some highlights to check out:

  • The old Bison Service Station that used to be at Durbin and 2nd Street
  • Independence Rock
  • Fort Caspar
  • The Shriner's in the parade

The most striking thing I noticed in this video is the many kids riding bikes and skating. That was a much simpler time long before any kid dreamed of having a video game system or handheld phone.

Someone please find the DeLorean so we can set the date to 1940 and hit 88 mph.
