Season’s First Freeze Expected in Cheyenne Area Early Next Week

The first freeze of the season is on the way for many southeastern Wyoming and western Nebraska Panhandle locations.

Meteorologist Chris Hammer with the National Weather Service in Cheyenne says a strong cold front is expected to arrive sometime Sunday night through early Monday.

"It's too early to tell if it's going to be a significant storm or not," said Hammer. "What we're confident in is our first major freeze across the entire area, so temperatures dropping at least into the lower 20s if not the upper teens overnight."

"With those colder temperatures we are looking at the potential for at least some light snow," Hammer added. "It's definitely too early to have any kind of idea on amounts, but we are expecting some kind of band of snow to develop from north to south across the area."

Hammer encourages people to keep an eye on the forecast and prepare their homes and vehicles for colder weather.
