Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says attempts by the city to purchase 2/3 of the  downtown property commonly known as "the hole" have been ''put on the back burner".

The city already owns 1/3 of the property, with a Kansas company owning the balance. Kaysen says there is a significant difference between what the city is willing to pay for the property and the amount the company wants for a sale.

The mayor says that while there is nothing to report on a possible purchase, city officials continue to entertain ''conceptual ideas" for construction on the site.

The property is located on West Lincolnway, and has been vacant since a fire destroyed a bake shop located there several years ago.
