Last month was one of the coldest Octobers in the history of Cheyenne. An average temperature of 40 degrees marks the seventh coldest October on record, according to the National Weather Service.

Cheyenne also received 10 inches of snow during October, nearly four inches above normal and the most since 2009, when we broke a 137-old record with 28 inches of snow before Halloween.

2019 was the coldest October ever in Douglas, Wyo., which averaged a temperature of 36.5 nearby. Alliance, Neb. also set a record for their coldest October at 37.5 degrees. Laramie, Rawlins, and Torrington each experienced their second coldest October on record.

Rawlins also set a new record low for the month of October, falling to -20 on October 30th. The state record for the coldest October day was set on October 29, 1917, when the Soda Butte ranger station in Yellowstone National Park plummeted to -33. It was the coldest October temperature ever recorded in the continental United States until the record was broken last year by Peter Sinks, Utah. Peter Sinks set the record again this year, plunging to -46 on October 30th.
