LARAMIE -- Wyoming now has its one-two-punch out of the backfield.

Markell Holman Friday announced his commitment to the Cowboys after eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark on the ground last fall at Western Illinois. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior has one season of eligibility remaining.

Holman will join fellow running back Samuel "Tote" Harris, who announced earlier this month he will return for his sophomore campaign.

Jaden Lawrence, Nico Hamilton and Dontae Burch also remain in the room, and Jay Sawvel and Co. also added true freshman Ryken Banks to the roster on early signing day. Max White, who transferred to Wyoming in 2025 after spending four seasons at Iowa, is also hoping to gain an extra year of eligibility and is awaiting word from the NCAA.

Terron Kellman, Nikos Varelas and Patrick Broadway II hit the open market on Jan. 2 and Sam Scott graduated.

There are now 12 known commits in this cycle. A source familiar with the process told 7220sports.com on Friday that number is actually 15, including an unnamed offensive lineman, a defensive tackle and a safety.

Holman, a Philadelphia native, rushed for more than 100 yards in a game five times in 2025, including his final three outings where he racked up 427 and two touchdowns. During that same timeframe, he snagged 10 passes for 99 yards and a score.

He finished the year with a total of 39 grabs for 314 yards and two touchdowns to go along with an Ohio Valley Conference leading 1,063 rushing yards. He crossed the goal line seven times on the ground and averaged 4.6 yards per attempt.

His best outing came in Week 10 against Lindenwood where Holman gained 172 yards on the ground, including a long of 31. Holman was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week. He also broke off a 49-yard jaunt on one of his 19 carries in a 139-yard afternoon against Valparaiso.

Northern Arizona, Tennessee Tech, Central Connecticut, Fordham, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and North Alabama also offered this offseason.

Holman, who spent a season each at Lackawanna College and Saint Francis University, both in his home state, came to the FCS school in Macomb with 917 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on his resume. After playing at William Penn and Smyrna, both high schools in Delaware, and despite receiving a zero-star rating from 247sports.com, Holman was offered by the three major FBS academies Army, Navy and Air Force.

Spring practice in Laramie is scheduled to begin March 24. Those 15 practices culminate with the annual game April 25 inside War Memorial Stadium.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
